I am fed up of the fuss around Johnson lying to Parliament - I mean he has done it since he was elected - probably one dodgy line in each speech. No-one really expects him to tell the truth do they? I did smile when he said "hand on heart, I did not lie". Well, the thing is that he did lie, he has admitted that he misled Parliament - he calls it misleading, I call it lying - and anyway, since when would a liar, which he is, not say "I am not lying" to defend themselves?
As for the outcome - if he is found to have recklessly misled Parliament then he will have to face the consequences and this is where it gets interesting. If the Tories rally around him and reduce any punishment to less than 10 days then he can't have a recall election against him but the outcome is that the public, the vast majority of whom know that he was either lying or incredibly stupid (or both) and so will rip pieces out of the Tories at the next general election. If they uphold any punishment of 10 days or more suspension then he is almost certain to face a recall election and the odds are that he will lose. For Sunak this is probably the least bad outcome but then they have Johnson free to fire crap at the party without any real restraining him.
If he is not found to have misled Parliament then this will also be interesting as there will be calls of a Tory cover up - there are 4 Tories on the Privileges Committee out of 7 members.
For the sake of Parliament I hope he is found to have misled Parliament and has a suspension considerably longer than 10 days and that leads to a recall election that he loses. At least that way Parliament comes out of this not stinking too much.
Now where is the popcorn?

There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and Tory corruption and I am not sure about the universe.
With apologies to Albert Einstein.
Doesn't matter what happens. The idiots who support him will think he is being victimised after all he did for this country if he gets some kind of sanction, if he walks away then that's clearly an example of what a good and honest man he is and how the establishment has it in for him.
Meanwhile the absolutely damning report into the Met went from headline news to forgotten about within hours.

Well if my daughter or wife were stupid enough to go to Iran or Saudi, I would expect them to be barely safe from the authorities.
I would prefer them to be safe from plod in the UK.
Given I know nothing about plod, I personally know one who got kicked by North Wales for shagging a bird in the back of the squad car in Old Colwyn, As a kid I delivered papers to the Super who ended up dying in prison after his kiddy fiddling conviction, One more who was asked to resign (reason unknown, but wife beating was a regular hobby of his), another who used to run PNC checks on "friends" vehicles to pad out shift reports if it had been a bit quiet, and was rather handy on starting fights in pubs with a bit of partner beating for good measure.
I pulled him out of at least three, before I got pissed off and left him to it; he got his nose badly broken.
That`s before I get into the hersay ones, I`ve heard second hand.
Like the very senior officer who got arrested propositioning girls outside a school, and quickly retired as the charge sheet was ripped up, or the station that a chief constable walked into at 1 in the morning to find the entire relief on site with their feet up.
I heard the Met chiefs interview on Sky, his flipant " I was fighting terrorisim and ISIS" comment about how he did not notice the culture in the diplomatic armed group he was running was nice.
I will try that with HSE next time they visit, I would bet on a "Here is a prohibition notice, your closed until you effect change" in response.
How are they going to change the system, the management were brought up in it, were all probably part of it, and either don`t recognise it or don`t care.
Will end up with a typical plod response, ignore it, victim blaming, and gas lighting.
I've never really had a lot of dealings with the plod but the few that I've had I don't think I ever left the interaction not thinking "what a prick'.
Last time I was in London an old guy took a spill and face planted on the pavement at Horse Guards, lots of blood and looked fairly shaken up by it. I'd noticed two plod a bit down the road so went and spoke to them, expecting maybe they might do something. They looked at me like I'd just shat in front of them. Neither moved an inch, didn't touch their radios, didn't raise a finger to help.
I don't even bother reporting anything minor any more. The reaction is either disinterest or hassle for you. I made the mistake of reporting someone who hit & ran me on the A55 a few years ago and the amount of aggravation it created left me thinking why even bother.
They do a job I don't envy but it's not a free pass to be a total dick. I can't imagine how intimidating it must feel dealing with the plod if you're black or from an ethnic minority. Lack of trust isn't news, the absolutely massive and criminal extent of it is something I never appreciated until recently though.

I got hit by a vehicle that sped off outside a school at 9 in the morning, ended up the witnesses all declined to give statements to the insurance; the other driver `phoned me up up in work and threatened to burn the place down (which muggins reported), then told the pigs that I had "offered to sort him out".
Result was three uniformed pigs in my office informing me that it was all my fault, and I should sign this document saying I would take no further action.
I did ask who the f**k the other guy was, he was obviously connected.
My view of the police plummeted after that, plod and pig are now common usage for describing them; they never used to be.
