    Paul.
If God had meant us to breathe underwater, he would have given us larger bank balances.
Human beings were invented by water as a means of moving itself from one place to another.

Mine moved from the south of England to North Wales, and changed the spelling of the surname in the late 1800s.
Family legend has it as an "overnight" flit, I am not sure who was looking for them, or if they were missed.

The dna analysis however would be very interesting; I just despise the idea of the insurance companies getting hold of it.
With those DNA tests you are simply paying to build up the company's database for them and the possibilities for misuse of your data are massive. Shame really as there are a few questions I would like to know the answer to in my own murky family tree

Surname spellings were quite fluid - when almost no one could read it often changed from generation to generation; I know someone called "Hirst" which was a misspelling of "Hurst" by a recruiting officer 150 years ago.

When I looked up the meaning of my surname, it was reported to be 'Dweller by the bog'!

I know 2 brothers who spell their surname differently. They are in their mid 50s and both agree that at one piont they were spelled the same but cannot agree which one changed their spelling

As far from the sea as we could be, except when we can actually get in it.

39 steps* along the corridor to our room No.39 in the hotel here in Conwy. I'd ask if John Buchan ever stayed here but I don't think the hotel is that old..
