What if it's stuck its bill in the mud?
Don't do that. It was a bird the size of a heron with black legs and beak. All the photos of a great white egret I could find had it with a yellow beak, which was confusing. Eventually, one of the guides mentioned in passing that it had a black beak when in breeding colours and everything else is out of whack, so...

Climate change is confusing for many of us let alone birds!

I've got a cut price 3 month access to Ancestry and am trying to squeeze everything I can out of it before cutting the subscription in the new year. Anyway, just discovered huge numbers of unknown relatives due to my Gt grandmother having an illegitimate child before marrying my gt grandfather, then him sodding off just before the birth of their 4th child and bigamously marrying someone else and having another 7 children! That branch is in Yorkshire though, so I won't be exploring further. Ew.

My view, if you don`t like the idea of there being skeletons in the closet, don`t open the door.

I was hoping for more Viking but only 7% pillaging berserker is rather boring.
    Helium, because I'm worth it.
Waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay sounded like a radical holiday opportunity until I looked it up.

I know there are skeletons without opening the door, I just don`t feel the need to take a jcb to a grave yard so to speak.

The dna analysis however would be very interesting; I just despise the idea of the insurance companies getting hold of it.

Just to be clear, the 'ew' was for Yorkshire. Given the levels of inbreeding, anyone looking outside the immediate family is at least easy to fit on the tree.
