I recently dismembered a decrepit trailer into manageable lumps. When I took it to the recycling centre they refused it as it was a “car part”. I can understand to an extent the car part rule as they don’t want oils and greases contaminating things but this was angle iron. I shall dismember it some more so that it is unrecognisable - there is no oil or grease on any of the parts I want to get rid of.

Thats why the €50 the delivery guys charge to get rid of your old one is quite attractive

True, but, sadly, not an option with an Argos delivery.

Roll it up and use rope
Reminds me of when i was small and helping my mother to do this with the mattress from my brother's bed. We'd managed to roll it up between us when she realised the string was downstairs, let go and went to get it. My 3.5 stone wasn't enough to hold it down and it unrolled violently and flung me into the wall.
Definitely don't doubt Dawn - not if you value your life

My parents burnt a mattress at the bottom of the garden; the spring/wire frame, then got kicked in the hole that had been dug for the concrete base for the central heating oil tank, and buried in concrete.
I pity the poor sap who tries digging that slab out.

You have to be careful what you burn these days but I think the recycling yards are getting better at dealing with mattresses, and mattress materials are made of more recyclable materials.
The place we've started outdoor volunteering at gave me the job of burning a load of rubbish. Trying to be good, I was separating out recyclables, putting aside any wood that would be useful in their log burner, and keeping the fire as hot as possible to minimise smoke. After a bit I went for a quick survey of the prospective wildflower meadow and returned to find the caretaker throwing all the plastic on the nice, hot, fire
Ah well, better than the last lot where, after an event, they put out loads of food waste to burn, including bags of ice cubes (??)
I think they need a educating.

We give £350m a week to the EU. Let's give it to Dido Harding instead.

Our local tip/recycling centre has an ever increasing list of things we are not permitted to dispose of which makes life very difficult especially when trying to do the right thing, maybe they should put in another skip rather than encourage fly tipping.
