I had a job interview today.
We've had so much rain here that the fields around us are like lakes. I was chatting top one of our local farmers today and he was saying that he thought that rice might be a better crop that his usual cereals!
Yes it is pretty dire. Yes I live near Oxford about 10 miles away we are on a plateau above 2 river valleys everything is flooded - the garden, the paths, the roads, the fields. The greenhouse is dry because it sits on a concrete base but the cold frames outside have standing water in them. The geology locally lends itself to this sadly despite being "up high".

This is hilarious - looks like they attempted to dive in December and didn't think to work out slack time.

Remember anything you read on the internet was probably written by some guy sitting at home in his underpants! Including this !!
Illegitimi non carborundum
The plan mentioned that it’s a good idea to buoy this wreck at low tide, then come back at high water slack. We neglected to do this, fully expecting wreckage to still be visible, on what was the neapiest neap of the year weekend. Somewhat perturbing then to find the wreck had disappeared beneath the waves when we returned – hmm, a calculation error somewhere. Nevertheless we were confident we could find it again and to everyone’s credit, not a single attending member of MKSAC was put off. We enthusiastically geared up ready to splash in at the nearest point for the short swim out.Times were correct for slack the problem was the wave action
Unfortunately there was still a current running west-east, making the surface swim nigh on impossible. Despite our best efforts, each buddy pair entered the water and drifted steadily downstream and away from the target. Add in a sea the colour and consistency of a bedtime cocoa drink, this quickly became an exercise in safe beach recovery and little else.
a strong mid tide
So on the neapiest neap of the year, at a site where mid tide currents are 1-3kt at worst on springs, everybody was carried off sideways? There's a 2 hour window on a neap and even then the tide only gets up gradually. If the current was running W to E on a high slack, then you were too early.
