I watched my Father get cross examined in court for 2 hours 45 minutes, (the insurance decided they were defending), where he was told he was "cavalier with safety" and had given no consideration to risk.
Claimant admitted that he had actually been told not to do what they had done.
District judge threw the claim out.
Barrister then asked for right to appeal on the grounds that she(the judge) was wrong; judge slapped him down (which was very funny, to me anyway) and dismissed the right to appeal.

Our business employers liability premium doubled.

I do not employ agency staff, ever.
Sadly the UK workforce has a similar percentage of idiots as the general populace. We have used agency staff in the past and found them to be as varied as any other group of people. Some are like your example, some are good (mostly the East Europeans) and some just arse about and fail to achieve anything for the business. The problem seems to me to be the actual agency(ies) where the temps controller has a shortfall of bodies to client requirements. My experience of temp agencies (having worked for one and temped for several in my youth) is they tend to be staffed by arseholes.

Letting agents also seem to drink from the same pool.

I never had a staff job until the 2008 recession. It's very dependent on what you do. I'm lucky that a large part of my job involves stopping very old blowy-up things going bang and wiping out lots of people so it tends to self-select for competency. Contract staff are usually really good or they wouldn't be able to make a living and it's such a small pool of people that the same faces appear on every project. Tends to be the same in anything specialist. It always annoys me seeing "bloody contractors" because it's been an uphill battle to get them accepted in the kind of work I do. In a lot of cases, full-time staff can be lazy and complacent and want to spend more energy avoiding work than it would take to do it in the first place.

Agents are scum, though. I don't have a good word to say for any that I've worked with over the years.

A painting subcontractor that we used regularly with a previous firm was sued by a painter of approx 30 years experience for failure to train them on how to use a stepladder. He had fallen off the ladder while working and suffered a bad landing which caused nerve issues. The lawsuit was successful.

I can't imagine that the 'tickbox' internal training that I saw (boat training with no water, ladder training with no .... yeah, that) would stand up in court.

Yes, yes. But think of the jobs it created.

After 18 months of having unknown chemicals injected into my arse cheeks, blood tests, pissing in a tub, ECG's and nasal swabs I've just completed my final session as a volunteer on a clinical trial for a new covid prevention drug.

                You're welcome

Thankfully, yes. I was getting tired of pushing it in a shopping trolley.

Phone call from St Thomas's heart unit.

Can we make an urgent appointment with your daughter?

                      Can I be told why?

                      No.

Hmm. I will try to get hold her for you.

Yes she is out of the country, not sure about her insurance status. At what point do you stop being worried about adult offspring?

When do they tell you if you had the real drug or the placebo?

I asked them that today. Not for a while, there's apparently sub-studies running so won't be until these are finished. You can be unblinded for medical reasons but not just out of curiousity.

I've been swanning around like Asterix full of magic potion for the last 18 months and not had the pox yet so I'm guessing it was the real thing. There was only a 1 in 3 chance of it being placebo.

As I cycled up the hill this morning, a grey squirrel ran ahead of me, randomly squiggling all over the road. It did a sudden sideways leap through the hedge and there was a splash and a very surprised squeak -straight into our neighbours' dew pond!

Grey squirrels can do very stupid things. We had one in the garden some years ago that would torment cats by dancing close to them and then dashing up a tree. All was well until the silly little bugger tried it with a fox, furry packed lunch! Thats evolution I guess.
Evolution is great at solving problems. It's the methods that concern me.
