I have just been checking my emails and realise that I have arranged to be carrying out a chartered engineer on my birthday next week. Not gone down particularly well in certain quarters……

After yesterday's dives in Grand Cayman, I've met another diving milestone - apart from the UK, I have now dived in 50 different countries across 6 continents (been to Antarctica but haven't dived there).

Grand Cayman is very expensive. We are staying in a self-catering apartment and my wife decided she would like to make a salad and went looking for a lettuce. One iceberg lettuce - £12 or an organic one for a mere £2 more! The cheapest offeringsin the supermarkets appear to be Waitrose Essential products.

Sounds like the rest of the Caribbean - anything from off the island is stupidly expensive, particularly fresh stuff, as it is air freighted in (it used to come from Miami but your lettuce has more air miles!). It also gets zapped by hurricanes regularly - I used to know a guy who grew tomatoes there and his farm was wiped out every 2 or 3 years regularly - which can't help either

I had always taken it to mean "This space reserved for drivers of the blind." There was a blind school or something relating nearby so it made sense, and actually may have been more effective. And thank you for your faith in my meanings!

Just had a call from a customer's sister. He's been found dead in the house, probably been there for a few days, heating was on constantly and a hot water tap running. I've been asked to make safe the boiler.
