I can't remember how much they were charging, it was like £60+ for a dip in Menai or something like that and the whole thing was a bit vague as to what you were getting, where you were going, how many dives. Never filled me with confidence. I was just looking on their website, seems Vivian and the shop are only open when they're running courses now.
Aye, you have to be a member of their club to jump in Vivian. Not like Llyn Padarn across the road has double the depth and roughly the same amount of silt for free.
If my local club weren't taking the Rhib out or I was going to have a nosie on my lonesone/small group I'd be giving GwyneddSAC a shout or a couple pals living in the area with boat access, cheaper and they know the area like the back of their hand above and below water.

I have not looked at diving Vivian for years. I've just looked at their website - £130 for a guided dive of Vivian?

Who actually owns Vivian? I am guessing it is on a lease?

It might be cheaper to dive there soon after their impending bankruptcy...

Yep, saw that. Hilarious. Seems they offered Jason from Wreckspeditions a guided tour of the quarry for £130 after cancelling the dives mentioned above according to his review. They have a sense of humour if nothing else.

I think it's leased from the council, Gwynedd owns the whole park.

Oops... At those prices I'm not surprised. It was handy for a fill on the way to/from Dorothea but with free access to Dorry going I've not been there for years. No real reason to now.

Blimey - Never heard Jason complain about anything!
Definitely don't doubt Dawn - not if you value your life

I'm going to be visiting my parents in Shrewsbury and was thinking about taking in a bit of diving in the northish Wales area.

Quite apart from the problems mentioned in this thread, these Duttons Divers guys do seem very expensive (I'd expect around €50 max around here for a fill and ride out to a dive site). Are there any recommendable places I could go in the same sort of area ?

We dive at Porth Ysgaden quite a lot.
It's a shore dive with quite a steep hill to climb afterwards.

Depending on what the weather is doing, Cable bay, Bull Bay, Porth Ysgaden, Porth Diana (Ravenspoint Gully is my favourite UK dive), Newri Beach, Rhosneigr Beach.

Give GwyneddSAC or RhosneigrSAC a shout around the time where you go and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

If you're a fan of Donuts I also recommend Melin llinon. Good Gin and chocolate too + Iron Age encampments if you're into history.

Have replied to you with details on messenger- I dived with them two years ago - shambles.
Then at St.Abbs with her ‘sister’ company - an utter shambles….

    Thanks,

Seaquest is out of the water. I raised my concerns about the safety of the safety of the vessel as I have concerns about the competence of the crew. I also know another BSAC club went out with them a couple of months before we were supposed to, and they said the life raft was out of date.

It seems they had an engine failure with a boat full of kids and had to call the Coastguard. As a result, it has been hauled out and they have been told it cannot go back in the water until it has been surveyed and met other requirements.
