The sea is getting the short straw with climate change

Spain has had a shit start with forest fires already this year. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/im...-fire-in-spain

At some point soon it will be too hot round the Med coast for the traditional summer holidays and the tourist industry will kick off. I have put our French property up for sale as a result of both Brexit and the fact that it topped 40 there last summer. 40 is too much. We used to get that in Italy and it was too much. I can cope with the mid 30s and even enjoy it if all you are doing is beach and walks (too much to do work). 40 has you looking for the air-con places.

Even more difficult to understand is how anyone thinks it is sensible to build new houses where it is getting stupid hot and to fail to fit solar panels and a/c from the get go. The next thing will be the gardens become little more than soil and car parking as the vegetation dies off. Some of the posh villas with a pool now creeping up to a mill in the same crazy stupid nonsense that we have here.

People are going to get burned. Literally and metaphorically.

Time to patent 21st century designs for the i-windcatcher, including optional shabestans and robotically maintained qanats.
The views expressed are my own, worth what you've paid for them, are not on behalf of anyone else and not those of any company I worked for etc.

Worked for them! Even the Romans had similar systems for their grand houses but it seems today, we cannot include any such design features; just bang an ac unit on and close the windows.

Haw many solar panels would it take to cool a six bedroom villa on Corfu?

The consequences of climate change are so significant that there has to be a desire to change "business as usual" or a near universal acceptance that life for our species will become unpleasant on a par with medieval poverty, famine and disease. What I see mostly is indifference and resignation that the individual is powerless. Both are toxic. Both are fed by the deliberate lies and media manipulation of old rich men like Murdoch who will be dead before the real show starts.

My incredulity at the indifference is what makes me such a boring old git, banging on time and time again about the same shit. I have learned a lot in the past decade, not least that people can be collectively thick as pigshit even when individually they can be intelligent. Sow a dumb idea in folk's mind and it just runs - on its own.

The marine ecosystem is hidden from view and the damage done to it only seen by us lucky divers. This morning's telly they are putting oysters back in the solent. I hope oysters like eating shit. That aspect of the water did not get mention.
