Many years ago, diving of a shuttle boat I had to help a young lady who had surfaced in a state of panic, out of air and overweighted. What was ironic was that she was wearing a Buddy BCD with an emergency cylinder and nevr thought to use it. I did - problem solved. When I asked where her buddy was - answer doing her safety stop. When I tackled her buddy when she surfaced, she said that she had been taught that divers must never, ever miss a safety stop! She knew her buddy was in trouble but felt a safety stop was more important. She certainly got the rough edge of my tongue.

as your not sat at 6m decompressing on 20/80h same on accent your set point is taking up the slack .

Also I wasn't inquiring about the spelling edits it's the edits that have no content left
    I was wondering about.

That seems to cover two of the items in the guidance. Problems (panic) and low gas supplies (out of air).

Maybe being trained for 15m/min direct to the surface gives a little perspective to the safety stop?

Arne was mentioned in a talk on Hydrogen use at RF4 the other weekend. Reason he died was that he was pulled to quickly and died from the consequences.

Yes, a sad accident. If I remember right it's detailed in one of Brett Gilliam's books on deep diving. Miscommunication between the people who were operating his deco platform or something like that?

My old neighbour in Glasgow had been one of the support divers on the HMS Reclaim deep diving experiments in the 1950's at Loch Long and in Norway. I'd have loved to have got more info from him but he was a raging alcoholic and drank himself to death eventually.

My memory of HMS Reclaim were not a happy one. We were diving from Oban in 1972 when she was visiting there. I was pulling our boat into the harbour wall next to where the tender to HMS Reclaim was berthed and the prat at the helm opened up the throtlle fully. The prop wash pushed our boat about 10 feet sideways and I ended up in the water with my beloved Leica M2 around my neck. It was a total write-off though fortunately insured and I still have it's replacement.

The tender roared out of the harbour at full bore, resulting in multiple complaints to the Harbour Master, who was not amused. We met him in a local pub that evening and he berating the bloody Navy who think they are a law unto themselves.
