Have you ever tried the "inflate the blob and just throw the whole lot loose into the water then catch the spool" technique?

Yes I see people ram their fingers in the hole rather than use finger and thumb and wonder if they know about the wet slip properties between plastic or aluminium and gloves with water as a lubricant? I suspect not.

Water is a lubricant it just depends on the materials. It's good between rubber and metal. It's crap between nylon and plastic... it's also good between polyurethane and tarmac which is why you don't get PU tyres on cars.

You could Machine the spool out of PTFE, bit expensive, and it leaches into the water... Heaven forbid.

Olive Oil, Thats what you need to lubricate your ring?

I have 500mm of 125mm diameter PTFE in the store room if you need it.
If you want expensive, try PEEK.
