    Ap weighting yellow box

Hi fellow divers, ive been away diving fresh water caperwray and stoney cove to get my mod 1 done my weight has been 8kg all on the belt with a 7L Ali Bailout. Went for a dive today to do weight check and run through some skills oc bailout as i f***ed it up last time ...

jumped in with 8kg on belt and 3kg between trim pockets on top of wing 11kg total thinking that should be about right, i handed off my stage to my buddy as i wanted to see if id be netrel at 6m.
Emptied wing, ds and lungs nothing added a 1.5kg clip nothing, repeted process again ended up with 3 1.5kg clips later i can sink slowley 15.5kg im thinking this is far to much, cliped stage on at 5/6m took squeeze out off suit, went for a swim around 10m max as off the jetty suit started squeezing just a short blast of air and im possitive suit still squuezing checked to see if i had minimal loop and i did.

my thoughts ive gained a load of weight in the last 2 weeks - probaly not enogh to cause that or god knows....

what weight is everyone using with yellow box im in a 1.5mm crushed neo with artic undersuit

forgot to add i did check with nothing attached to me, no light canaster, dsmb camera etc

    thanks lee

Sounds like a fair bit of lead alright but you need what you need and everyon is different. Are you sure that you had empty lungs (your own and CLs) as well as suit and wing? I have to close my ADV to be able to descend as otherwise it fires when I am trying to get below the surface.

I got rid of the yellow box on mine and replaced it with a custom frame someone was selling on FB along with a back plate. I still needed fair bit of lead to sink the AP though. In the end I ended up going for a JJ and find it a much nicer unit and do not need a belt even in the sea when I have my tube weight in.
If my post doesnt have a typo, then I have probably been hacked!

Cl and my own were defintly empty, suit was squeezed and wing was empty, just seems really odd as i onley need 8kg 2 weeks before in stoney cove i was expecting 11/12kg. im out tomorow on a jetty dive so will try turning the ADV first its doing my head in.

    cheers for the reply lee

    Couple of things...

If you jump in for a first dive in your neoprene drysuit, until the outer layer of nylon is soaked you will be a bit buoyant. You'll find on the second dive, if you add lead, you will sink like a brick. If you can, jump in, hang around on the surface for a bit doing bits and bobs (good time to spit and rinse your mask for example) to allow everything to get saturated.

I found the yellow box to be one of the most annoying things about the AP unit and changed it to a frame as soon as I could. Now need zero lead even with a OThree Ri2-100 and a Santi BZ400+ underneath.
I have nothing to do with BSAC any more apart from being a muggle member. So anything I write on here is likely to be complete bollocks. Hooray!

One of the best things you can get for the Inspo. I have been on my knees in front of Martin begging him to make a bloody proper box and get rid of the plastic bag of crap... although I made my own frame out of a chopped up Custom Divers travel frame and a fabricated cover. One in stainless for sea water and another cover in plastic for fresh. The nice thing is when you clonk something with it, there is only one spot where it clonks so you know exactly what do to to wriggle out of the hole. It also weighs less than the AP case (18kg without cyls), isn't as buoyant and is far, far stronger.

From memory the AP box is “neutral” the Gbox couple of kg negative. Not a massive difference but the frames are a bit easier to live with and can improve clipping off. Weighting , dumping absolutely everything including the loop will get you under but you need what you need. Prob will improve with experience.

My Vision has G-box with ali BP and harness is slightly negative in fresh water, for which I compensate with an extra undersuit layer, and for the sea requires 2kg bag of shot at the top of the scrubber.

I seen hundreds of ap yellow tubs being dived by loads of shite divers and all seemed to manage . The last guy I dived with that had gone with a cage . ( A cage much more handsome than the waz carbuncle)
Killed him self after trapping his rear bump valve in said cage that started him on a road of no return . Stick with the box as is for the time being .

    Ps
5' 7. 11 stone. About 9/10kg seemed to work for me.
After moving from a twin set to the CCR the only thing I changed was a few kg on top of box. For better trim

    Chicken rock rather good fun.
    Enjoy your CCR m8

    cheers bud

i dont feel so bad for the 14kg then, althout on t12's im 4kg witha stainless bp ! im 6ft 107kg, a few people have said it takes time and i need to get out the habbit of oc, jump in and drop as im not a few kg overweihghted at the start of my dive .. ive not had chance to go to chicken rock yet as last time the club went there it was above my abilities just completed sports diver but hadnt done my depth progression hehe. im sure it will come togeather on ccr ive only had 10 hours on it. i think its just me over thinking and been a bit impatient with it and still getting used to no lungs for fine tuning haha !

    cheers for the reply bud
