Decades ago I passed my driving test in a Hillman Imp and my license enables me to drive automatic cars, cars of any brand, vans, small trucks, and tow quit a big trailer. Not a singe extra course was required although my reversing efforts with a small trailer were funny to watch!

I qualified as a BSAC diver with BCD and single tank, and then added a pony, swapped to wing and twinset, and no 'skills development course, or 'speciality' was required.

When you consider an rebreather is just a wing with a tub of lime, some oxygen sensors, a few electronics, and a solenoid I'd argue any 'cross-over', or unit specific qualification, is merely an opportunity to support a diving instructor!

I see your point but for Mod 1, there are all the nuances of the unit that might not be immediately aparent until pointed out.

Mod Mod 2 and above I dont agree with unit specific, those courses teach generic theories rather than specifics so they should not be unit specific

I'm not against this type of course
If someone feels thay will benefit from said course fine by me . As long as it's not mandatory. As we have seen I the past when you do said course all of a sudden you validate said course and the dive industry says hay this should be mandatory lol like the opportunities twats they are

Late Update - TDI Mod 1 - JJ Helitrox done - turns out I’m 2/3kg neg in fresh with standard cylinders, canister light, vest battery and 2L suit inflate ���� so that’s 10kg difference from yellow box diving the unit for me the difference was night and day, Dam near perfect trim, a lot easier to hand stages off ( most probably as I set the harness the same as my twinset, was nice been the star pupil for a week!

I was no fan of the YBOD weighting. On my KISS with a SS frame 0 lead, JJ 3KG + SS plate, rEvo one 2kg weight on top, YBOD 2 X 3kg in weight pockets 2 X 2kg soft weights in the box on top of the tanks

Got rid of the YBOD harness and frame and went to a couple of different box units

This was my UK rig which was a Hurn Box, a work of art if you ask me. 0 lead required

Sadly the above was too heavy to travel with so I used a ultralight SS travel frame which as a tad fragile but deffo did the job. This required a 2kg top weight
