Chain making, wot they used to do a lot of round our way! Shouls be noisy enough to count. At the Black Country Museum a couple of weeks ago.Evolution is great at solving problems. It's the methods that concern me.

I visited but could not find a suitable photo a beetling mill in N. Ireland (National Trust) Still working but only turned it on when we were outside. Apparently the rest of the county recognised people from the village , all deaf by 30s. That's noise.
A beetling mill used to beat linen cloth until soft!Evolution is great at solving problems. It's the methods that concern me.

I remember reading about flax mills where the soaked stems were beaten apart using powered wheels with protruding, wooden rods. A contempary writer stated that you could tell the flax workers by their lack of fingers.
