I don't know, compared to pre-covid rates that's quite a big delay. I renewed mine at the end of 2019 and had it within 48 hours, that was just paying for the standard service.

Got to love the civil service, it's always the end of the world but there's always time for a fag break and a cup of tea. Are passports another department contracted out to Capita or some other useless Tory donors?

The employer of first recourse, for employees of last resort.

Wife renewed her passport in January via online, biggest problem was getting the photograph acceptable/accepted: iirc it took over two weeks to come through.

In 1984 I applied for a job as a civil servant - fresh out of university

Four members of the panel of five questioned me extensively on technical ability (see my degree), management experience (none), the fifth member had one question. "As a recent graduate, do you think you'll fit in, it's not all tea breaks you know"?

I had a summer job in the civil service when I was a student. It was a real eye opener. Not a culture I could work in. They gave me the keys to Glasgow Sheriff Court, shows how stupid they were.

The last time I renewed my passports I used the same day service. They were full and needed a visa.

A busy day. Off to the post office for the forms. Get some passport photos taken. Fill everything in while having a coffee at the coffee shop. Walk to the passport office for the interview (they new it was me because I was wearing the same shirt as in the previous passport). Went for some lunch and shopping in town, as it needed about 4 hours. Walked back to the passport office to pick up the passports. Walk home and fill in the visa stuff now having a new passport number.

We ordered a new passport online for my mum at the beginning of the pandemic. As the photo shop was closed along with everything else. We used a mobile phone. It took ages to get one that was reasonable. It still got rejected, so had to do it again. The flash caused the issue. The next thing was finding someone to certify the photo. Although the list is long she struggled to find someone.
