Yup. I do honestly wonder about people that buy fish derived cat food. Where did the myth that cats like fish come from? They appear to me to be much more fond of chicken and much more likely to catch and eat birds than risk getting wet fishing.

About two years ago, the head of the North Wales Police federation had a major hissy, that his officers were so poorly paid, that one had less than £50 to get through Christmas, and had to resort to a food bank to get by.
As they had given details such as years service, and previous service as a PCSO, a quick google of the Police federation website revealed that the officer would have been on a minimum of £25k a year.
About 5k over the local median wage.

At the time I had a family renting a property off me, they had a joint income of £28.5k.
They had two kids (one about to go to Uni), ran two cars, and had two Labradors.

Some people manage, some people just love a hand out.

It's pretty poor how the pet foods are labelled and very hard to work out what comes from what. PuppyT has chicken and rice kibble but where those chickens come from, I couldn't say. (I think if he had his choice, he'd subsist on a diet of pilau rice, whatever we're eating, anything stinky and foul from the countryside, raw or cooked pasta, mackerel, various raw veg, beer/cider and chips... but his backside would explode.)

used to get a supply of stripped chicken carcasses for my hound from the local asian slaughterhouse. used to quarter them about 50kg at a time and freeze them. feed them frozen that way no smell in the house. fooksight cheaper than any other pet food, no packaging and making good use of a waste product. that and beef tripe and various other offal.

I get free range chicken carcasses from my local butcher FOC. I then add local grass-fed diced beef, lamb tripe, pork shoulder, beef offal, chicken livers etc and freeze in batches.

For treats I dehydrate any offcuts from fish that I catch, plus the skins. Also liver, kidneys, lights etc from the farm.

The dogs eat better than me.

I work in the food industry, part of that being pet food. I could get tons of pet food for free. I make my own. They’re not all bad, just most of them. The worst are the big brand names. I have some proper shocking stories to tell 😂
