The end for diver caught lobster dinners?

DEFRA are considering including crustaceans in the upcoming animal cruelty bill and making it illegal to boil crustaceans alive. They are being pressed to make it compulsory for all crustaceans to be electrically stunned before cooking. Even killing them with a knife or skewer first is considered to take too long and cause suffering. The equipment to electrically stun them is a snip at 2000!

    Paul.
If God had meant us to breathe underwater, he would have given us larger bank balances.
Human beings were invented by water as a means of moving itself from one place to another.

Shrimp, crabs, barnacles, ostracods and krill are all crustaceans too (as are woodlice) - so that's a plan that is obviously going to work well...

Good news for lobsters. I feel sure they must have written to their MP.
We give 350m a week to the EU. Let's give it to Dido Harding instead.

Well, I feel a bit sick now, but I don't see anything about boiling or stabbing. I imagine being boiled alive is one of the most painful ways to die, though you'd probably go into shock quite quickly. Lobsters and crabs both have more than one nerve center, so stabbing them at random will just be an extra bit of inconvenience before being boiled.

Was discussed on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 at lunchtime. It was playing in the hairdressers where our Osteopath has a treatment room.

Don`t mention the Brexit bonus of a home market for british shell fish.
