    SAA third party liability insurance

    Hi,

Does anyone know what SAA third party liability insurance consists of? Would you be happy to dive abroad with it or would you want DAN as well?

    Many thanks

Remember that 3rd party only covers other people, so if you do something that injures someone else, they can claim off your insurance.

If you need insurance for rescue or medical treatment, you need somethign like a DAN policy for that.
Proud to be a boring health and softy crap following sissie!

So for UK diving it should be fine. Would it cover accidental damage to a hard boat if you were diving from it? Ye, so I'll stick to DAN for abroad then.

As already stated it likely only covers you if you cause damage to others, except in the US.

I use Westfield Marine Insurance for both travel and diving cover.

Why what happens in the US? Or are you just not covered there full stop?

Normally not covered in North America.

Wouldn't even think of getting in the water abroad without DAN - my annual travel policy does actually cover me for scuba diving within my qualification but if it goes tits up I want the guy on the other end of the phone to understand what DCS is...

Me too. What I like with DAN is that if anything happens, they will take over and project manage the situation rather than just paying the cost. A comforting thought when you are in some remote location. The trip we did to Socorro, DAN insurance was a condition of booking.

Trying to think what a diver could do to my boat that wasn't "fair wear and tear" unless they did something so completely retarded to cause significant damage? Decide to bring their own chip pan and burn the galley?

Or at what point you would start requiring divers to have insurance against this, as I bet the small print on a lot of diving insurance would exclude any claims not directly related to diving?

There was that boat that burned to the waterline when someone's O2 cylinder caught fire.
I have nothing to do with BSAC any more apart from being a muggle member. So anything I write on here is likely to be complete bollocks. Hooray!
