Reminds me of the adage about football and rugby: Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, and rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen

That's what my games teacher used to say!

Did anyone elses' PE/games teacher used to work at the school where someone got killed by a javelin because they weren't listening and walked onto the field?
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Footballers are overpaid lawn fairies. Rugby is played by men with funny shaped balls*

Football is a game where grown men roll about pretending to be hurt and rugby is a game where grown men run around pretending not to be hurt.

First high school rugby match I was in, someone was taken to hospital with a broken arm, decided basketball was for me, later in 6th form.. broke my arm playing basketball (in a grudge, ahem, sorry, 'charity' match versus the games teachers !)
