    www.gasbottlesdirect.com - bona fide?

Has anyone any comments about www.gasbottlesdirect.com?

They're excellent prices, but want to pay using a bank transfer in EUR. Obviously this removes the card payment protection which fails the sniff test (for a company which should be flogging lots of tins)

Are they bona fide? Anyone bought anything from them?

Because it's €220 for a pair of 2 litre cylinders with rebreather valves inc VAT & postage. AP's 360. My LDS doesn't stock them so will order them and add a margin.

I do get some gas from them but since moving to CCR I'm banking my gas (with all my ex OC twinsets and ali80s!) and tend to get my helium from a gas dealer. Also the LDS is strict on O2 cleaning and testing. How can an O2 tin need cleaning if it's only ever full of O2?

Not far off of looking at my own compressor and booster.

BTW GasBottlesDirect are in the Czech Republic where the tins are made. So it's feasible that they can source them a lot cheaper than other companies in the UK.

Good point. Thank you; probably worth the non-hassle of using the AP option (or maybe GoDive), or maybe even ask the LDS if they'll do a deal to match the prices (I don't like asking them to do that).

Mine have all been tested and serviced to standard as all the OC tins would be regularly refilled. So I'm confident they're still in good nick as they've only drifted out of spec by a couple of months. I'm not keen on forking out >100 for a test & clean on each twinset when they're not being used underwater, so will be looking more at "dry" cylinder testing procedures (or if I flog them or need to get them filled elsewhere). With some 20-odd tins, the testing and cleaning treadmill gets sodding expensive.

I'll have to keep at least one set of rebreather tins in test & clean as I'm sure I'll be getting them filled outside at least periodically.

If you hold your horses they come up from time to time 2nd hand. Admittedly you might have to venture into ebay or FB but you pick some up , I’ll keep an eye out.

    "Have them checked"?
Nowt to stop you taking a valve off yoursen and having a look inside.

Could show you some horrors of "shop filled" shit over the years too.

p.s people go on about thread gauging like it's some voodoo but they're only a 6g/6H fit. They're taking about a tonne, which isn't exactly massive for M25 either. Has there ever been a failure due to out of spec valve and cylinder necks?
(discounting darwin award shit like 3/4 taper screwed into a parallel neck etc)
I'd be more worried about wear on discharge side or cracks due to dropping cylinders etc...
