    HMS Royal Oak survey film

    It's 81 years ago today since HMS Royal Oak was torpedoed while at anchor in Scapa Flow with the loss of 825 lives, many of them boy sailors. The survey team have today released a cracking little documentary about the work done over the winter of 2018-19 to bring her digitally to the surface to a wider audience.

    On the 14th October 1939 HMS Royal Oak was torpedoed by German U-Boat 47 while she sat at anchor in Scapa Bay, Orkney. Of the 1259 men on board, 835 were killed.…
    I have nothing to do with BSAC any more apart from being a muggle member. So anything I write on here is likely to be complete bollocks. Hooray!

            Few handsome fellows in that footage, especially at the end!

            Really well made short film, fingers crossed that some interest is shown to make a full blown documentary which would be a great watch as tons of footage still to be seen
