    Oxygen and Nitrox at Home

After tips and price confirmation from those who keep oxygen at home to fill CCR cylinders, nitrox, bail-outs and deco gases.

Although I have a rebreather, I am back on open circuit for the foreseeable future as parted from my unit due to Covid19. I had been filling diluent from a bank of 16/55 and adding air as necessary using a booster, oxygen has been from the LDS at 1.5p per litre plus 4 per fill. I am now diving nitrox, usually 27% which is charged at 4 air fill plus 1.5p per litre plus 3 blending. I do around 100 dives per year in local waters.

Assuming that 3/4 of the dives are on nitrox and 1/4 on air, I believe that the oxygen side of the equation comes to about 500 per year, not including deco gases, renting a Y from BOC and 5 fills would be around 200 per year. When back on CCR, I believe the cost will be around 300 from the LDS and 180 if I fill at home.

    Do these figures look right?

There are convenience issues on both sides of the argument, so just looking at costs.

Plus a decent blending whip with proper needle valve. Plus a trimix analyser. Plus adaptors for cylinders, plus a proper digital guage. Plus, plus, plus.

Financially home blending doesnt really add up. The handiness of popping out to the shed for 20 mins instead of heading to LDS does make it less painful though

Already have those bits for blending trimix from a bank.

I've just made some enquiries, seems like Hobbyweld have a local outlet.

Why have you parted from the rebreather because of COVID-19?
