Fascinating thing to visit. A lot more complex than I imagined for a mass produced ship. Huge amounts of work in engines and pipe work.

I was initially a bit confused that the bow didnt look as high as the James Egan Layne. Then it occurred to me that a good chunk of it was underwater! Doh.

I still want to see one of them. The John W Brown is on the east cost (now Baltimore) and does short trips in the summer. I just don't want to go through US customs!

I’ve always wondered what one would look like whilst still able to float

Arthur M Huddell is the floating maritime museum in Piraeus. Greece is closer and doesn't require going through the US.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Is that the Greek one that has had some conversion work? I would like to sail... I think the John W Brown cam over for the D Day 70 year commemoration. I wonder if it will ever cross the Atlantic again.

I was last in SF in 2001, only saw it from dockside.
Spent a couple of hours in the Radio museum though.....

Previous time in SF, the Presidio was still a Military base!
