The Silent World: Jacques-Yves Cousteau - probably the first and original diving related book, diving by the skin of your teeth, and a few tales of dynamiting fish 'responsibly' in the name of marine conservation.
Stars Beneath the Sea: Trevor Norton - good book covering the history of people trying to breathe underwater since way back.

Anyone got any other recommendations for good diving related books?
"responcible" dynamiting of the ocean.... Geesh, and I thought *we* were living in weird, creepy times. :/

If you watch the Odyssey on BBC Iplayer you can understand how the Cousteau's came to be environmentalist's

32 pages of people banging on about it. Life’s to short to read all that. Even if you’re stuck at home

Yeah, I meant the book, not the forum comments; the book has a few good points. And a lot of mediocre ones. And what seems like a lot of sour grapes.. Most of which has no bearing on the actual diving, and is more on the reportage of the events.

Yeah, I thought mostly sour grapes too. Certainly not as gripping and well-written as Shadow Divers, that's for sure.

+1 for The Darkness Beckons - Martin Farr has done some pretty amazing things, I loved reading it, but wriggling into tight, confined, dark spaces with high risk of death isn't making me want to try them!
