    Hope Cove, Devon

My club is organising a trip to Hope Cove this September.

I "hope" you can help me with some information please.
We'll be taking the rib, 5.5m Humber. Anyone dived from there with a boat?
    Launch from there or elsewhere?
Are there any decent sites about 20mtrs or shallower in that area?
Where would you get air fills from?

I'm sure there's more questions but that's all that come to mind for now!

    TIA
    Paddy

Yes, many years ago, needed a 4x4 and had the waves breaking over the roof before the rib would come off the trailer. (flat sand beach)
DO NOT leave your trailer and car on the beach we did, until a local pointed out the high tide mark
Salcombe might be a better launch bet. Plus the Fo'c'sle in Salcombe is a diver run B&B
nearest air is now Plymouth (I think)
loads of dives out of there

Rebreathers are like women; they pretend to love you, whilst taking all your money and trying to kill you.

Hope slip is directly exposed to the sea. Any swell can be a bit of a bastard by the time it hits the beach. Reversing a trailer can be a sod too. Slightly easier since a corner was cut off the sea wall. If you launch there, diver pickup should be from the other beach, below the carpark. Trailer etc to that car park too unless you're lucky and get a space elsewhere. Unlikely. Launch fees to harbour master who will usually come over. There are rocks on the approaches to both beaches, including a couple that suddenly appear just under high tide...

Alternative is Salcombe. Pricey, but easier. Pick up divers from North Sands. There is a small carpark and this can reduce shuttle time back into Salcombe. Don't speed, speed guns are used and skippers fined. Watch for Salcombe Bar at low tide and rough weather.

IIRC, both sites require evidence of boat insurance.

    Air, Plymouth.

Sites: Soudan, Cantabria, Hertzogin Cecille, Ramillies. Most broken up as they hit shore. Reefs etc. Gets deep quickly as you head SE. Maine, Oregon and Persist 35m
