The "What size should I buy?" thread - fins..

It seems to me that this question is asked all the time. The person posting the thread has an idea of the fin they want and a vague idea of the size - however they are unsure whether the fin will fit their drysuit boot.

Here is a starter for ten.. A simple list that can be added to that should include the manufacter of the fin, the fin size, the drysuit and size of boot.

Please add your own findings to this list (that is ANY fin, ANY drysuit. The combination must work though)..

    Master List from entries below..

    • Aqualung/US Divers Super Rocket fits DUI Rockboot US 11 (UK 10)
    • Beaver Assault fins size XXL fits OThree size 12 boots
    • Cressi Frog fins size M-L are about right for Oceanic size 9 boots
    • Force Fins size XXL fits O3 size 8 boots
    • Force Fins size XXXL fits O3 size 10 boots
    • Force Fins size XXL fits Otter size 11 Rockboots (Large Sock)
    • Hollis F1 Size XL fits DUI Rockboot US 11 (UK 10)
    • Hollis F1 Size XL fits 8/9 and 9/10 O-Three boots (msf500tb drysuit)
    • Hollis F1 Extra Large = Dry sock/size 11 converse
    • Hollis F1 Size 'Regular' fits size 8 O'Three Drysuit boot (with no spring adjustment)
    • Hollis F2 Size 'Medium/Large' fits size 8 O'Three Drysuit boot (with one adjustment to tighten the springs)
    • Hollis F2 regular - Scubapro M size booties with both sides on the furthest pin ie longest length
    • Mares Avanti Quattro Regular fit size 10 Beaver wetsuit boots
    • Mares Avanti Quattro Regular fit size 10 Seaskin standard boots though slightly snug.
    • Mares Avanti Quattro XL fits size 10-12 standard Otter boots (Regulars/Large? are a bit small for Otter 10-12 boots)
    • Mares Avanti Quattro XL fits size 12 standard Otter boots
    • Mares Avanti Quattro XL fits size 11 Oceanic Rockboots
    • Mares Quattro XL fits Outer Edge size 10, doesn't seem to fit Turtles XL or XXXL - either too big or too small!
    • ND Jetfin clones XXL with size L Halcyon straps GO NOWHERE NEAR DUI rockboots size 14.
    • ND Jetfin clones XXL with size L Halcyon straps do fit wetsuit boots in a 12.
    • Northern diver XL fins fits DUI turbo sole US size 10.5 - 11.5. (UK 9.5-10.5)
    • Oceanic Viper Size 'Regular' fits size M Scubapro Semidry Boot
    • OMS Slipstream XL fits DiveRite Size 9 (US size), does not fit Othree neo boots Size 9 (UK)
    • OMS Slipstream XL with Hollis L springs - O Three size 7
    • OMS Slipstream XXL fit size 11 standard otter boots
    • OMS Slipstreams XXL fits size 9 Othree boots
    • Scubapro JetFin XL fits size 7 O'Three boots

    • Scubapro XL fits DUI size 9 (US) rock boots
    • Scubapro XL fits size 6 standard Otter boots
    • Scubapro XL will fit Size 10 O3 boots but it's so bloody tight it is better to go for turtles
    • Scubapro XXL Jetfins will fit 11 O'Three standard drysuit boots
    • Turtles XXL fits Seaskin size 8 neo boots
    • Turtles XXL fits DUI turbo sole US size 10.5 - 11.5. (UK 9.5-10.5) (ScubaPro XL too small. Turtles XXXL massive.)
    • Turtles XXL does not fit size 9 Othree boots
    • Turtles XXXL (the biggest) with halcyon fin straps in size L fits DUI rockboots size 14
    • Turtles XXXL (the largest) fits OThree OTB size 11 (UK)
    • Turtles XXXL (the largest) fits Othree Neo boots size 10
    • Turtles XXXL (the largest) fits Protec slimline boots size 10 (though a bit 'roomy'..)

    • Turtles XXXL fits size 9 Othree boots
    • Turtles XXXL (the largest) fits size 12 standard Otter boots.
    • OMS slipstreams size XXL = Otter rock boots Size 8 UK

for info: Jetfins in foot size order (smallest first):
    Scubapro L
    Scubapro XL
Turtles XXL ( '2XL' written on front inside of Turtle Logo)
Turtles XXXL (just has Turtle logo on front - no other markings)
    Scubapro XXL

    Others?

    Disclaimer:
This guide - is just that - a guide. It will give you an idea if a particular combination will fit, won't fit or might fit.

Remember: One person's idea of a set of fins fitting is not necessarily anothers..

Picking a poorly fitting fin can create discomfort during a dive, can lead to cramp (do we have the start of the incident pit??), loss of a fin, etc, etc.

'Turtle Fins - so there are two sizes.. I don't know which fin is what size..'

As there is much confusion around the two fins from an identification point of view - here are some photos for comparison.

2XL from Taiwan. XXXL is from the USA..

2XL pocket height is just over 85mm

XXXL pocket height is around 80mm

2XL pocket width is around 95mm

XXXL width us around 130mm (35mm more than 2XL!)

Pocket side by side comparision: XXXL on top, 2XL below. quite some difference..

another side by side of the pockets. 2XL on left.

front of both fins. 2XL on left, XXXL on right. Both have a turtle logo on..

2XL on left, XXXL on right. Both fins similar length. foot pockets different shape.

I hope this helps someone and gets rid of some of the confusion around these fins..!

On the Mares front, need to be a bit careful, got 25 pairs here and the pockets on same sized fins are not the same.
Eg: got XL's that are massive and XL's that are closer to a regular. Not sure if it's when it's made or the molding
that day, use sizing as a guide sure, but there is no substitute for trying on in the shop etc.

I've found size 11 O'Three standard drysuit boots just fit the largest sized quattros (foot pocket seems about the right height and width but just not quite deep enough - manageable easily but not as snug as usual) but nicelyfit the new XXL sized Scubapro Jetfins.

Cressi Frog L - XL just fit otter brittanic neoprene socks with otter 3-strap rock boots over the top. I have cut the bottom strap of my rock boots as they are very snug.
