Is it time to modernise diving instruction?

With modern technology, is there any reason that instructors could not just instruct through Skype / Facetime / Whatsapp etc?

It would save a lot of environmental impacts by reducing unnecessary journies.

    What do you think?

Distance learning is nothing new. But you still need to be assessed in the water at some point, apart from rec nitrox , I guess. I did my an+dp theory remotely, plus in person assessment. That was 8 years ago now?
I don't want to get technical or anything, but alcohol IS a solution

They don't work underwater. Diving is an underwater activity where underwater skills are most important. We have a model and it works.

Rebreathers are like women; they pretend to love you, whilst taking all your money and trying to kill you.

If I watched a video of someone scootering in a cave at 150m, does that means I have DPV, full cave and Mod 3 in the bag?

For theory stuff, given high quality of the BSAC training materials, remote oversight seems fine. Isn't that like TI? For in water.... there is no alternative.

No. Just a credit card. Some good advice would normally follow for no fee...
