    Wanted: full face mask

    Hi

I am after a full face mask to see if I like the way it feels - I am relaxed about the model / manufacturer as I am just dipping my toe in at the moment- well face actually, I will avoid putting my toe in the mask. If you have one that is sitting around doing nothing please drop me a PM.

    Thanks

    Jay

Only time I have seen someone in trouble with poss bend was a guy in the Red Sea using one of these without proper training. Boat collection from around Ras M, saw him a few days later when he turned up all ok in Hurghada on return.

Every time I'm in Aldi I pick this up, ponder for a moment, and put it back again.

I have an Ocean Reef for certain specific dives where I want to limit my exposure to water but TBH FFM in regular scuba diving either rec or tec is a pain in the backside.

However, if you have your heart set on one I'd avoid the Ocean Reef and get an OTS Spectrum instead. The latter is half the money of anything else and works with your existing regulator.

I used an Ocean Reef for years and had no problems with it (down to 60m with it). All on boat dives (lots off a RIB).

As EmpireMica has intimated, you DO need a specific O/Reef reg for the mask. Using a 'normal' reg with an adaptor ring caused massive free flows. You must also have a Surface Breathing Vent.

It also takes a different mindset and practise - if you need to 'change' you loose both vision and gas at the same time and a reserve mask in the pocket is essential. Gas switching is possible but adds another complication to the set-up - not for a KISS diver.

You can try mine BUT I haven't dived for 10+ years and the reg would need to be serviced + I don't know how the mask seals have fared in storage. BSAC used to do a FFM course/trial session but that was years ago and had prob stopped now?

If I ever get back into diving I fully intend to FFM again.
