I thought it best to post a brief report about diving in Gibraltar. We flew out there using Easyjet from Luton* and landed on time in Gib. I was last in Gib back in 2005, someone had been busy with the glass and concrete franchise as there are rather a lot more apartments than last time. The boss and I had booked into the Rock Hotel. Not the cheapest option by any means. But the hotel was suitably located and excellent service**. We had arranged to go diving with BSAC 888 as one of our group had some long term links with the club. The group we dived with were great fun, very experienced divers, and a compressor system that was awesome.
We managed five days of relaxed diving, visiting the numerous small wrecks, connected by a rope network, that was worthy of a circuit diagram. The diving is pretty good, with a good range of wildlife. We found cuttlefish, octopus, nudibranchs and loads of other critters. You can gain some idea from these short videos that I put together.
Gibraltar is one of those places that is easily overlooked. Yet the flights are plentiful, accommodation and food is not expensive and the diving is pretty good.
* Now in a seemingly endless expansion journey. But it still manged to provide the most uncomfortable part of the trip. Ten minutes on a packed bus with no ventilation.
** apart from the bar staff, who would have made Basil Fawlty look efficient
