    Which fin?

    Hi all,

Stuck between a first fin choice for the drysuit. With size 13 UK mens feet, not all fins fit in their biggest size. I'm eyeing up Hollis F1's or Apeks RK3's. Does anyone here have experience with either? At 6'8 with a strong kick, I'd like to maximise the energy through the fin.

    Regards

    TC

I've got size 12 feet and the RK3s are fantastic. I use the size Super.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I've not used RK3's, but have had a set of F1's for the last ~3 years and am very happy with them.

I think the standard RK3's are a little lighter/more flexible than the F1's, but I believe they do an 'HD' version?

one of my friends had F1s and he's as happy with them as I am with the RK3s.

I've used all sorts of fins over the years and find F1s are very comfortable to use.

They are a goldilocks fin for me, not too stiff, not too soft, and I can wear them for hours without even noticing them on my feet.

    But they are bloody heavy.

I have a pair of both and they're both great.

The F1s are heavier and have a wider foot pocket which some people don't like. However, they're bigger and you'll get a lot of push per fin stroke.
The RK3s are lighter and a bit of a tighter fit. I get enough push from them which a rebreather and two ali 80s.

Currently, I'm wearing the RK3s because they're newer but I like both and will probably use them interchangeably in the future.

You could try one of each - depending on which way you swim in circles will tell which is more effective.

    I use RK3's and I am also a size 13. I take size "super".
