Suggest you try it in cold water at depth and check it works - pretty pointless having it otherwise.

Always carry a spare. I have adjusted lenses for bad eyesight so I need a spare with me anyway. I swap them around every few months. Its in a pocket on my right and serves as a perfect place to put the long hose.

So, have used it a few times i.e. I have needed another mask cos the other had a broken strap etc. but outside of practise or training, never in anger underwater.

However, as already mentioned, if you carry a spare and dont clean it beforehand, it will mist up immediately when you need it.

Let's call it a quorum then. Still an achievement!

I tried this and didn't get on with it, I think the mask strap tensioner/buckle things were inside the hood. Maybe the cut of the hood? I don't trim the face hole on mine I like it to overlap the mask skirt as much as possible, in fact it would probably hold the mask in place a bit even without strap (must try this, actually...).

Anyway, with hood over mask I was bloody freezing, it ducted a lot of freezing cold water right over my temples.

I don't have any problem using a gag strap on the unit with my mask fitted normally either, although pulling the strap over the top of the mask without loosening it first isn't really an option, though I don't need to do this to switch to offboard so I don't worry about it.

No, you get a lot of free banter and piss-taking, and a course in "How to be less clumsy"!

I use one of those velcro mask straps with a big neoprene bit on the back, which works very well under a hood - I find that the velcro bit that goes under the hood (just in front of your temples) doesn't feed cold water in at all, perhaps it is a bit thinner/compresses better than a normal mask strap.

Also carry a spare mask - I do it out of habit now so it's all dives.

Whilst I have not had to use my back up, I was on a dive where the lens fell out of my buddies mask (whilst descending) and they had to swap over masks. Once swapped over we carried on the dive with no further issues.
