    Email!

So, the latest thing I hate (after everybody starting a sentence with "so") is ...... calm blue sea, calm blue sea, calm blue sea ....... people "reaching out to me" by email.

    Have sex and travel!

I have just had a good idea, well, an idea. I'll add a reply with words/phrases that are really annoying (to me) and you may add yours, if you can be bothered, innit.

    Annoying words/phrases:

Hollistic - (I still shudder) from the DIR Wars.
So - seemingly the opening word of everybody interviewed on TV/radio.
    Innit.
    Like.
    Reach out to you.
    Have a wonderful day.

I'm getting too cross to add any more at the moment.

Unless you are a member of The Four Tops, there is no valid reason to use the expression "Reach out" in a work situation.

(although, maybe if you're a lifeguard and are using a stick to reach out to help a drowning person)

    Ecosystem

Are you an ecologist? No? Then the word you're looking for is "System", you can't have an ecosystem of, e.g., computers unless you've filled them with compost.

Engage & 'I hear what you say'
Both expression used in public or club meetings meaning 'this what is going to occur and nothing you say will change my/our mind!'

This would be suitable for 'yourself' - the word you need there is 'you'! Why make it longer?

could of should of would of

    Helium, because I'm worth it.
Waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay sounded like a radical holiday opportunity until I looked it up.

How about HSBC secure email, that requires me to enter a password every-time they send me an email, which is generally explaining what they have got wrong this time, and now need me to do something again for them.

I once had to interview someone whose CV said they had a "dogmatic approach to pragmatic situations".

I so wanted to put on my best Inigo Montoya voice and say "That word - I do not think it means what you think it means."

Is it OK to use "bandwidth" when referring to the data bandwidth??

    Edit : oh dear. And...

    - Interface
    - Taking things off line
    - Sequential.

All part of my day to day working language at the moment, sorry
