What powers from Brexit? Seriously? It is not an empowerment. The point of it was to leave the EU and as such remove any supra-national governance from the UK. So he is talking as much bollocks as you are. In order to impose a marine protection zone the government needs to impose a marine protection zone. Since such zone existed prior to our departure that is an objective fact that EU membership does not preclude such creation.

On a work related note I have to figure out how to get some quite expensive equipment from Germany and Italy back to the UK so it can be repaired, and then send it back to the customer without getting stung for the VAT/Duty in both directions.

Reminds me of an issue I had back in the late 70's when I was managing the S/W support department for my company in the New Zealand subsidiary. The company had just brought out a new range of big mainframe computers and the International Division had sold it's first four. The spares division said that because of the high cost of spares inventory, full spares kits were allocated on the basis of one per four systems so International Division were allocated one. However, the systems were located in Johannesburg, Perth, Hong Kong and Auckland! I pointed out to the Spares Division inventory manager (I was visiting the UK at the time so was acting as go-between with NZ because of the time difference) that there were only rwo flights a week between Hong Kong and Auckland, which was the only one of the other three locations with direct links and that eachtime the spares kit came into New Zealand, we would have to pay 40% import duty which was non-refundable on export.

I'd guess it will also depend on the risk/penalties if you're caught. If it's a small fine and a slap on the wrist, then probably not too much of a deterrent, if it's have your boat and equipment impounded (or scuttled/blown out of the water altogether, as some nations have been known to do ), then perhaps a bit more likely to be adhered to
