5mm (?) suit for tall skinny teenager ?

Any tips please on which brands / where I might find a wetsuit suitable for diving upper teens / low twenties (so 5mm ?) for a lanky streak of p1ss teenager ?

Height prob about 5'10-11 and pretty much a skeleton with skin

Its for a PADI OW course in a few weeks, and I'm not sure that the shop will have a suit thats a close enough fit so if I could find one so much the better

Said teen is currently bogged in GCSEs so time for going and trying stuff on is very limited .....

Decathlon would have been my suggestion for value for money coupled with the fact that this time next year it will no longer fit him. But the nearest to you is Oxford.

B&M May have suits to fit. It’s the time of year for that sort of offer .

I tried freediving in my 5mm surfing wetsuit a few years ago on a hot August day in Plymouth. Max depth wasn't much more than 10m, and I only did 4 or 5 dives lasting around a minute each. I got very very cold and ended up back home in bed, fully dressed, under 2 duvets, and was still shivering after 2 hours - i.e. I had hypothermia. The wetsuit fits me extremely well (my rash vest stays almost completely dry) and works brilliantly for surfing throughout the winter.

Based on that experience, I'd say there is definitely a functional difference between a surface and a diving suit. If your son is skin and bone like me, I'd definitely recommend you do your research and ideally get him to test out whatever you buy e.g. with some snorkel dives. The only subsequent time I've used a wetsuit for diving was on a trip to Tenerife. I bought a second-hand 2-piece 7mm diving-specific suit, which worked okay, but I certainly wasn't complaining about being too hot.

I have a 15 year old and had the same dilemma, anything I buy him is going to be too small in 6 months to a year. The Dark Lightning Wetsuit is what I bought for him and it has worked out well, for him and my pocketbook!

For £140 ish you can get a Beaver Rockall suit that is the right size.

At that price sell it in 18 months and get another.

I have one of their suits and they are great for holidays and UK waters above 15 degrees for 45 / 60 min dives with a good hood and gloves.

Unfortunately, finding good suits for someone with an unusual body shape is difficult, as manufacturers make suits in popular sizes.
