    Capture One

Anyone using this instead of Lightroom, Elements or Photoshop ?

What do you think of it by comparison ?

I've used the free (cut down) version for Sony raw files. I don't have any Adobe processing software for comparison but Capture One seems to do a decent job although I wouldn't pay full price for it when you can get a lot of the capability in a free Android app these days, albeit without raw file support.

I seem to remember the consensus on Wetpixel was that it was over-priced, but maybe not so much if you're paying Adobe an annual subscription for only occasional use of Lightroom etc.

It seems to process RAWs (from canon at least) far far better than adobe camera raw. But so do most raw converters around these days.
Its improving, the interface isnt as intuitive or useful as lightroom yet and there is a learning curve.
The main thing it lacks which prevents me switching to it full time is a good library and cataloguing module which lightroom still wins with.

With LR performance being questionable and its comparatively poor handling of RAW files these days the market should open up to competition.

I still love Lightroom, I have various others including capture one and alien skin but still find myself going back to LR.

Open question - the website says it can organise "large collections" in a catalog, but thats a bit subjective.

Is large measured in thousands of images? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands?

Anyone got a view on how "large" might be?
