That applies to most countries passports unless you've got an EU passport and are travelling within the EU.

Edit, the 9.5 years is only for 'foreign' travel, I used my just about to expire passport as ID a couple of weeks ago with a govt department.

I am sure that was the same with my passport.

The rules on passport expiration changed recently, a passport is only valid for 10 years from issue* (any added time on older passports is not valid now)

    * 5 years for an child (under 16)

They changed it in September 2018 - it's not 10 years from the issue date, not 10 years from the previous passport's expiry date.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Remember anything you read on the internet was probably written by some guy sitting at home in his underpants! Including this !!

Nope. Not me. If ‘they’ don’t want me on ‘summer vac’ then I’ll go to lovely Scotland ..... oh, hang on. Perhaps I‘ll go to Wales instead ... oh, hang on. Never been to Ireland .... yet ... what’s this new border in the sea?

Actually, I’m not even certain that the people in West Sussex are very welcoming ... Oh well, I’ll stay at home, then. I never thought I’d say it but “TF for global warming”.

What do you mean GW will put the UK into an ‘ice age’?

    Cup of yellow snow, anybody?

I still only want one passport.
