Dive Management... it doesn’t say if it’s to focus on the brief stuff covered in SD or the more detailed stuff in DL... I guess I refer back to the Dive Planning lecture and then focus on “on the day”...

Take the “students “ on a dive . I had this as my TIE . Took the kids soft toys ( crab fish lobster octopus ) and a Lego wreck made an open space dropped the toys and boat in floor as the set up . ( allowed a few mins prep ) then did a dive brief and went on the dive ...

Dive Management is a huge subject, starting off with individual (OD), assisting (SD), known (DL) & unknown (AD). Then there’s shore diving, RHIB, hardboat & live aboard. All of which have their own considerations.

10 mins is realistically 8 mins of teaching. Keep it simple, pick one area out of the DTP & check your lesson against PAVE.

The theory exam is based on all elements of Ocean, Sport and Dive Leader + some Instructor bits,
so do ALL the exams again even the Ocean Diver ones and isolate areas that you are weak.
For the Instructor stuff re-read teaching scuba diving, go over BSAC terminology and
have a read of the intro pages for each diver grade in the IM.

For the presentation read the limited Dive Manager elements in Ocean, the extra stuff in Sport
and the most detailed in DL. Once done use this as a template so you are technically accurate.

It's a big topic and you have 10mins so don't make the common mistake of doing too much.
Do a brief general Intro, do an element, summarise at the end and say "next week we will be"

The advantage of the above is that by doing the prep you won't be phased by questions at the end.

How long since your ifc ? I left it 5 years but the presentation styles hadn’t changed. Stick to the info detailed above from SD OD DL, use PAVE (instructor manual details this if it’s a bit hazy) make sure you get something visual in and dry run it loads. I was nervous so dry runs helped me memorise the details. For the Theory re read everything up to DL and take the exams.

Just make sure you do each bit of PAVE and its a pass - don't overthink it

Try and avoid PowerPoint - use visual aids or flipcharts, they like that

Remember your timing - you can't "do" the whole subject in 10 minutes so select one aspect and stick to it; mine (some years ago) was "equipment" and I did the whole thing on the DSMB

Look forward - "Next time we will be looking at ..."

My memory of the exam is very hazy; I don't remeber it being particularly difficult but it does cover the whole of the DTP so remember to brush up on Ocean Diver stuff too, particularly if you are a crossover from another agency and never actually did OD (like me)

I did my IFC about a year ago I think... Still reasonably fresh. I've got hold of a flip chart and now thinking about what next!
