How to prepare for BSAC TIE

Hi all

I have the BSAC theory instructor exam coming up next week, and I've been given my 10 minute presentation subject which seems pretty straight forward. No-one in my club has done the TIE for several years though, and my region don't seem to have any preparation events. What should I expect and what do I need to do to prepare?

I'm pretty confident on most of the theory itself and know my tables, but what else should I brush up on?

For the multiple guess exam there will be questions on diving at altitude (tables, transfer tables etc). Bit on charts (dive leader stuff). As to the presentation try to keep it engaging and progressive (accurate goes without saying) and watch your time it runs away really quickly.

Present to the whole group not an individual. Do not try to cover the whole subject. If you can use real props not just power point. An example basic equipment talk about one thing for 9 mins. Make sure you ask if anybody has any questions. In you summary " we have discussed masks next session we will cover fins and snorkles.

Any presentation should have a brief introduction, the main information, and a summary at the end. While summarizing do not add new information. Relax and enjoy it is not as hard as you imagine

you're presentation is charts? if so it's a gift. take some charts put them on the table and get people to huddle round while you discuss how to identify dive sites, how to read off the position and how to work out the tide using the nearest tidal diamond. 10 minutes will fly by.

Dive Management... it doesn’t say if it’s to focus on the brief stuff covered in SD or the more detailed stuff in DL... I guess I refer back to the Dive Planning lecture and then focus on “on the day”...

Personally I would take a single roll that a dive manager has to cover. I would have the person keeping the log sheet filled in explaining why this is important and what each box means. Take a blown up version and go through that.

The dive manager is in charge of the diving not just filling in a form.
