    Theory training

    Hi,

I am a lapsed member of the BSAC, unfortunately I collapsed in February this year this turned out to be a seizure. I obviously canít dive but as an associate member, would I be able to continue doing the theory training. I was an open water instructor before I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I miss the social aspect of being a member and would like to offer some support to my local club. I will not be able to drive until July but when I get my license back I would like to join and help my club. If you could offer me some advice I would appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Stuart

You need to be a full member afaik - however that doesn’t mean you have to be fit to dive

Ring HQ and ask to speak to Jim, he'll know.

I suspect that if you're a member you'll be fine. We've a couple of members that no longer dive but are AIs and help out with theory lectures.

If it moves - canoe it, if it doesn't dive it!

You're an OWI. As long as you're a member you'll be able to teach theory if you can't dive. You should also be able to cox'n, dive manage etc... There's plenty of SDC's available to non-divers deliberately to entice families to get involved.
