NDAs... Didn't Weinstein gag the women he assaulted and paid off using NDAs?

Sorry this sounds like sniping. It's the staggering arrogance and incompetence which the "leaders" of that organisation have exhibited. The impunity they display exploiting the disinterest of the majority of members and the ineffective constitution.

Probably get golden handshakes when they have run BSAC down so PADI can buy us a knockdown price.

(and the last 2 renewals I did got lost in the system for months)?

On your second point in my experience I am not sure we would want them to be representative of the membership!
I would hazard a guess that at least some of them are employed on a part time basis.

Including the Chief Executive? After all, she has a chocolate empire to oversee as well...

The root of all this evil is the bloody absurdity that the CEO, a person in the highest senior leadership and strategic position, is not on a fixed term contract and properly accountable to the trustees. If you run *your own* organisation, then that's fine. If you're running *someone else's* organisation, then you need to be accountable.

The point is that the person in charge should face a cliff-edge every, for example, 4 years which will focus their mind away from complacency. This shouldn't be a box-ticking exercise, but should be up to "the shareholders" to decide on renewing the contract. New blood will then flow.

You have a choice: set some KPIs for the management team - probably starting with stabilising the membership numbers and achieving financial break-even next year - and hold their feet to the fire on them but you then have to give them autonomy and Council has to step back to supervising and holding the management to account against the KPI OR you run it like it is where no one is actually accountable for anything...

This seems to be the key issue - who is actually in charge of BSAC? If the CEO is an employee, who monitors her performance and sets performance targets? Who does her appraisal ad authorises salary reviews? IF she is a director then she should be on a fixed term contract with KPI's against which performance should be judged. The whole organisation is a complete shambles with no clear terms of reference and accountability. It is a totally obscure and secretive operation and talking to a solicitor former member of our branch, he was not sure of the legality of the way it is being run.

Nothing much changes then, does it?

Go back to the late 80's/90's during the Holbrook/Ellerby era, they ran BSAC as their personal fiefdom. It was very much like South Africa today with President Zuma refusing to move over to make way for fresh blood. As a former, but still interested, BSAC member it saddens me to see the way it is being run down under the current leadership.

Well Zuma has gone, so perhaps there is some hope for BSAC after all!
