    What 3G Network for Scapa

Heading up at the weekend, and want to buy a SIM card for my iPad. Can anyone tell me what networks are half decent?

Assuming that you are diving from a boat then I would have thought the people you booked through would be the best placed to answer?

Are you staying in Scapa or heading 'out and about'?

I used vodafone in my phone and three in a 3g wifi hotspot dongle and had no issues with either.

Don't know how useful this will be but, if you're staying on any of the boats that tie up next to the Hamnavoe you'll be able to piggy-back on it's wifi network

I was on Vodafone in September, was ok for making calls while in the town, outside them a bit hit and miss. Getting on the internet more miss than hit but some of the pubs had wifi so not a problem

Got bugger all from my Vodafone last week! Fortunately the house had wi-fi. My partner uses Virgin and she had a signal most of the time.

Thanks, staying in Valkyrie, but don’t really want to pester them. I’ll go pick up a 3 SIM card and see how not goes

Whatever you do don't use O2, they have no data signal at all, my buddy (and most of the boat) were on EE and all seemed good, I was on O2 and cursing, have since moved provider!

                    Hello!

We have our own on board Wi-Fi which is free to use. It runs on EE. O2 is poor, with no 3G in Stromness.

                    See you next week.

I'm on 3 and had near perfect reception most places in Stromness. When I was out in the middle of nowhere with friends, I still had signal most of the time.

I was on the Hamnavoe a couple of months ago on my way back south after delivering to Shetland.

Their wi-fi varied between crap and non-existent, so I spent the trip to Scrabster birdwatching on deck and trying to avoid God-awful American tourists...

We’re alongside now and I’m down in my bunk with 4G on EE with my iPad. Vodafone for my phone seems a bit sketchy though
