    The other thing to consider is the hang tank. It's one solution but in my world if I think I'm going to need it I take it with me rather than having it hanging off a boat that current may make it hard to get back to.

    Where are you getting this from? sounds fishy to me...

    No argument if you're saying that carrying multiple gasses is a contributory factor in tech fatalities, but that'll just be down to the fact that all tech divers will be carrying multiple gasses, not an inherent issue with gas switching...

    AFAIK, the biggest killer of divers of any stripe is medical events.
