So a few weeks ago I acquired the SLR Magic 8mm M4/3 lens. It's a manual lens so no auto focus and no aperture control once it's in a housing but I figured that for a lot of the time I shoot close focus wide angle so can reasonably well predict the settings I need. So after a few dives I'm naturally setting the focus at just over the 1m mark, aperture at [I]f[I]16 and then managing the rest of the exposure on the camera. This morning I dropped in for a fun dive on the Karwela and while swimming around the starboard side close to the sand I found this big guy, he was probably 1m wide at this point. For the geeks the rest of the settings were. 1/50th at ISO1250. The Octopus was about 500mm in front of my lens but it was overcast so not a lot of ambient light which meant I had to push the iso up a bit higher than I normally would have but I'm pretty happy with the compromise.
