Unhappy Bluetooth OSTC 2 - trouble shooting

I like my OSTC 2 but one thing I still can't get to work is the bluetooth connection for downloading dives or connecting the companion software for firmware updates.

    Problems

    1. The bluetooth connection appears to time out on the computer which is pain when trouble shooting
    2. Windows 7 will detect the device but apparently I don't have the correct drivers installed (where do I find these?)
    3. Trying to connect the companion gives the messages shown below *
    4. Subsurface software - I can select the correct download com port and start the download but it never progress at all

    *
    OSTC2 selected.
    Connecting...
    Port is not defined.
Port : Port is not defined.
Error: Port : Port is not defined.

Googling brings up some discussions the heinrichsweikamp forum but none that have helped me so far. Can some IT wise person please guide me?

    Cheers,

Windows 7 is quite old, I'd start by updating to 10.

Control Panel -> Devices -> then...

Open Bluetooth and if you see something relevant open the properties and post a screengrab.

    then...

Open Ports (COM & LPT) and if there is something there for each right-click properties and post the screen grab.

Instructions might differ a bit, I am on 10.

    Matt.

    Matt.
    This.

Get into the properties for the Bluetooth adapter on your pc. There will be a tab for drivers. On that tab there'll be a doofer for updating the driver. Clickety click and away you go. If that fails, figure out the manufacturer and model of the adapter. Get on the manufacturer's website and download the driver for your device, saving it somewhere obvious, like the downloads folder. Go back to the properties tab and go into the update dialogue. When it asks you where to look, point it at the downloads folder et voila.

Once your driver is updated, find the properties tab that tells you which com port the Bluetooth adapter is mapped to. You might have to do it the other way and look up the ports and see which one Bluetooth is mapped to and/or change it

Now you have the drivers and the com port, change the com port selected in the HW app to the one you found/set above.

    Should sort it out.

Define the port (Little Icon next to the Computer selector drop-down menu).

Which port should you set? The right one and if there are more then one to choose from there is no need to test them all. Just look into the "Services" Tab (Your last screenshot) and see which COM port has been assigned. If you can't select it in the compaion just enter it into the port field manually ("COM 22", for example).

Windows 7 is just fine. No need at all to upgrade to Windows 10...

    Hope this helps,
    Matthias

    The driver looks fine.

I cannot see the first grab as it is too small. Probably the Facebook hosting.

If there are no COM port allocated I would start looking into that first.

I don't have Win7, or the OSTC. But clearly it uses COM ports as there is info on it here: https://ostc-planner.net/wp/setcommport/
