Somewhere to hook up with suitably experienced buddies, plan group trips, get boat bookings together, look at feedback so you know your potential buddy isn't going to kill you, that sort of thing.
Yeah right: they can't even get the new OD course out of the door - from memory the current one dates from 2002 and the new one has been "coming soon" for years. Plus the website looks like it was old in 2000! What chance have they of getting e-learning or an e-booking/scheduling app up and running this century?

well the IT lead promised a all new whizzy flashy thing .

the NDO also said at the dive conference last year that the new OD course would be out in the spring . and not to wait for it if they had students ready but to do the old one. farking good job clubs didn't wait innit

Online, distance learning is absolutely essential to help make training easier and quicker. Let’s hope when the new Ocean Diver is eventually launched this will have been addressed? BSAC have pots of money in the bank to easily be able to afford this. Digital materials and certification evidence will help reduce the cost of training packs too and always be current.

Unfortunately the pot of money is rapidly shrinking as ten of thousands continues to be squandered on legal fees to protect those that need to hide ;-)

As for the "new" website..........drum role please.......it's going to be launched at the DOC this year

    Email from HQ today:

"The updated Ocean Diver course – which is the first phase of the Diver Training Programme review – is now complete and all set for release. BSAC Instructors will be able to access the revamped Ocean Diver Instructor Resources from the end of July, with the new Ocean Diver training packs on sale by the end of August. Full details will be provided to Instructors and Branch Officers prior to launch. You can read an additional update in this month’s SCUBA magazine."

You are absolutely right - plus in the same thing we are getting a 'fresh new look for BSAC' - obviously the reason diving is in decline is because we are using the wrong colours...
