    mac mail and gmail

anybody got any idea why my mac mail on my computer would suddenly start downloading old and junk emails from gmail without me altering anything. it's suddenly trying to download over 38,000 emails, no issue with my iphone so I'm stumped.

We had a similar problem (but only the 2 months worth of undeleted mails we keep on the server) when our mail provider changed their server setup.

Never got to the root of the problem, but there again, it was only 3-400 mails -so I didn't look too hard.

it would appear google had put every email I'd ever received/sent/deleted/filed into a new folder called 'important' and it was labelled to show in IMAP. I went into gmail settings and spotted it and unchecked it and the problem went away.
