    A 50 m shaft big enough to do anything in is going to be expensive to dig unless there is a 50m hole kicking around unused - I cant see recreational diving paying the cost of that. If you really need 50m for something scientific it would be a lot easier and safer to build a wet pot facility. For comparison the Gosport submarine escape tower is 30m high/deep

    Italy has got one that's 40m deep. I'm going on Saturday. I imagine it's quite popular with free divers.
