    Acceptable cost for Reg servicing??

Does anyone know what an acceptable going rate for reg servicing would be?
I've been given a quote of around 90 for a Mares 1st/ 2nd stage plus octopus from my LDS...whilst I do not have the skills to do it myself & appreciate I will have to pay for someone else's time/ knowledge/ parts etc, it does strike me as being a little steep!
Or am I being to cheap?!

IIRC, the last apeks service kit I bought was over 20, so that's at least 60 for parts for 1st stage and 2 lots of second stage kits.

However, a google search for Mares services kits brings up a link for a 5.97 1st stage service kit...

I don't know which LDS that would be, but I've just had my stuff done by Neil and Matt at Bristol Channel Diving Services in Cardiff for prices I thought were very fair. It was Scubapro stuff though, so I don't know how parts compare. General consensus seems to be that they do a good job. A lot of people from Bristol area seem to use them - stuff gets taken over from my club (could be same as yours for all I know!) by the boot load at times. If you've not tried them already, might be worth a call.

Had a set of Legends serviced at dive cellar in Derby 45. Though I doubt you will find it that cheap anywhere else.

    Or......

Buy new regs and sell old regs. Sometimes you'd be surprised how near the numbers can get.

Couple of things to think about -

    1. Does the LDS that has quoted you 90 do the servicing themselves, or do they sub it out elsewhere? (and if so, add their own mark up to the price).

    2. What is the reputation of the LDS like in terms of servicing? (I had an LDS "Service" some regs (read "bugger up") and then try and charge me for fixing them again because they had been "Used" after their service).

    3. Is this a straight forward "over the phone" quote, or have they seen the regs and are quoting for specific work? If they have not seen them, what are the chances of the price creeping up with things like "you needed a new hose....a new diaphragm...etc".

    4. In respect of (3) above, don't forget a Quote is just that, a quote for the work to be done, whereas an estimate is something quite different.....(and likely to rise).

Not much use to you unless you don't mind postate, but we use Amphibian Sports in London and I would not even think about questioning the price there - the work is superb, the service fantastic and the tea is pretty decent too....!!!

Amphibian Sports in West Norwood are simply fantastic. In terms of quality and cost. Give them a call if the location is suitable for you - 020 8761 2458
This reminds me, I need to take mine down to Amphibian this week for servicing.
