Instructions for Photo of the Month Poll

Some time ago Stuart Keasley was good enough to put together these instructions for the POM poll, We hoped to make these sticky which never happened I have just found them again from 18months ago for the current setter of this months comp and would like to request that these could be put permanently on the Photo sub Forum. This is the second time I've had to find them from the depths of the forum. Please Pretty Please!!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING A POLL FOR A PICTURE OF THE MONTH.

    Make your selection of images

1.Open up the Photo Competition thread
2.For each entry that you like, usually a maximum of 10, click the "Multi-quote this message button" displayed on the bottom right of the post (the button should then display a tick beside it)
3.Click the "Reply to Thread button at the bottom of the page"
4.Select the text in the new post field, and then copy to the clipboard (let click, drag and hold, then right click copy)

Start a New Thread for Voting

1.Start a new thread in the Photo forum. Format the title as follows "VOTE : <MONTH> <YEAR> <COMPETITION> : <Subject>", e.g "VOTE : JANUARY 2013 DIVING CONTEST: New Beginnings", "VOTE : JUNE 2013 NON DIVING : Waterfalls"
2.Type a brief description of the competition subject along with any criteria for entries
3.Paste the final selection into the post from the clipboard
4.Remove any unwanted text from the final selection
5.Clcik on Preview Post to make sure it all looks OK

    Set up the poll

1.Click on the "Post a Poll" Check Box
2.Change the amount of options to the amount of final entries (normally 10)
    3.Click on Submit Thread
    4.Change the Poll title to the thread title, i.e. "VOTE : <MONTH> <YEAR> <COMPETITION> : <Subject>"
5.Enter each finalists name into the Option boxes
6.Change the Poll Time Out to 7, to automatically close the poll after 7 days (reduce this if you've started the voting late and want to keep it on track for the next month's competition)
    7.Click on Submit New Poll

Announce the winner and ask them to set up a new competition once the voting has completed

Many thanks Wilbo. It is a fairly daunting task the first time (and the second and the third) I just don't win often enough to get good at it.

Holy moley, It's just taken me an hour to set up 2 photo polls. I need a stiff drink now.

The only thing I would add to Stuarts instructions is start with two tabs open on your browser. One to this thread the other to make the poll. Makes it easier. A bit!

Further to the Instructions. It is usual for a maximum of ten entries to be selected by the competition setter, for voting on. A few more could be accepted at the discretion of the competition setter but significant numbers become unwieldy and should probably not be put up for voting.
