OK, who informed him that the world is older than 6,000 years old?

I think he took over officially on Monday - perhaps the shortest tenure of any party leader.

I thought that it was illegal to cut down / disturb trees in neasting season - i.e. before 1 September.

Not necessarily illegal UNLESS you disturb birds. A suitable check beforehand is what's required although it's frequently recorded as Cba (couldn't be arsed). Causing that much damage to the tree could be an issue.

To be honest I didn't know trees nested.

Wouldn't bother them - all watching the bird's tennis.
We give 350m a week to the EU. Let's give it to Dido Harding instead.

Definitely illegal in this case according to the information provided - they knowingly instructed the work and the contractor did the work while in full knowledge that the wild birds are nesting.

I would suggest that both the neighbour and contractor are both liable and potentially face to up to 6 months in jail or a (potentially) unlimited fine -https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wild-birds-protection-surveys-and-licences

To be fair Newton came up with a very similar but slightly different number... There was also an absolutely hysterical spat over whether time should be counted as having started at 6.30 in the evening (i.e. sunset) or first thing the following morning which may be behind the DUP problems (though how you can have sunset when presumably there was no sun to set at that point beats me)
